Event Information

Description

This seminar will cover the basics of tall ships and tall ship sailing. We will trace the history of the tall ship from its early days to its peak in the “Golden Age” of sail in the mid-19th century, when 3-masted Clippers set unmatchable speed records, and finally to the magnificent Windjammers – the last breed of commercial sailing vessel. We will talk about the anatomy of a tall ship, different sail types and how they work, and how one goes about tall ship sailing today.

Rachel Slatyer Bio:
I'm a part-time tall ship sailor, part-time ecologist, and joined Hoofers in 2016 to get some time out on the water. I've volunteered and worked on a few different tall ships, all in Australia, and can think of few better things than a week at sea on a big sailing ship.
