Prereqs: None. This course is designed for the beginner sailor who wishes to charter boats someday. It is open to members and non-members alike. This course tests your ability to sail a boat of about 20 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. The course includes classroom training, 16 hours of on-water practice, and a one-month HSC membership. Click this link to see the ASA standards for this course. A J24 light rating will not be given after completion, but many of the skills will be checked off. Cost: $415 non-member, $315 HSC member. Please register in person at the Outdoor Programs Office. You can register by phone also by calling 608-262-1630. OPO clerks: Students are to receive an ASA logbook and a copy of the book, Sailing Made Easy. Non-members are to receive a one month HSC membership.
