Description

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You MUST reach out to either Andrew Helm or JoAnn Long to schedule your testout! Testout dates are available September and October through October 27th. JoAnn  long can be reached at josailing19@yahoo.com and Andrew Helm can be reached at aehelm@wisc.edu. The testout is NOT scheduled for October 27th, rather you must figure out a time with JoAnn or Andrew. 

Prerequisite: Hoofer Sailing Club Member, J 24 light rating or heavy keelboat crew rating.

The ASA 101 Test-out is an opportunity to demonstrate your sailing maneuvers in a sloop-rigged keelboat approximately 20-27 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision . Students coming in from the heavy keelboat fleet can get checked off on the J Fleet skills mastered through this test-out. Be sure to inform your instructor beforehand. A J-24 rating will not be given from this test-out; however, you may fulfill many of the requirements and be only a few classes away from a light rating.

The ASA Publication: "Sailing Made Easy" Please come to the Outdoor Programs Office to pick up your copy. Students are expected to have read and studied this textbook prior to the class. The written examination is based on this text. ASA manuals are on their way, and should you schedule a testout date before the books arrive, than you may complete the written test after the testout once the books arrive.

The ASA Logbook The logbooks will be given to you by your instructor.

Cost: $170 students, $200 Faculty/Staff and Union Members.
