Description

2018 Winter Education Series -

Topic for this week: Limnology Departpent presents on Lake Mendota

Lake Mendota is often billed the "most studied" lake in the world. The birthplace of limnology (the study of lakes) in North America, UW-Madison scientists have been conducting research on it since the late 1800's. But that doesn't mean Lake Mendota isn't still full of surprises. From the unexpected discovery of invasive spiny water fleas and zebra mussels, to the uncertain impacts a changing climate will bring, Center for Limnology scientits are still exploring threats to Lake Mendota's health and how the people that live near its shores can help protect it. CFL researchers will talk about current research on Lake Mendota, long-term trends in its water quality and what these new invasions may mean.

This class will be led by Michael Spear, a Ph.D student with the UW Center for Limnology. Check out his Bio HERE.

These classes are stand-alone seminars presented by Hoofer instructors and other Hoofer friends. These are free, and a current membership is not required for winter education, so feel free to invite your friends.
