Description

2018 Winter Education Series - Sailing Through the Winter - On Land

Topic for this week: Practical Electronic Navigation

An introduction to GPS and how to use it wisely in combination with traditional paper charts.

We cover basic use of chartplotters and handheld GPS units including smartphones and tablets, and how to work simultaneously with paper charts for greater situational awareness (i.e. how to avoid a “GPS assisted grounding”).

We'll also cover some of the important factors that go into creating a sailing route and where to find crucial information effecting navigation and planning.

These classes are stand-alone seminars presented by Hoofer instructors and other Hoofer friends. These are free, and a current membership is not required for winter education, so feel free to invite your friends.
