Event Information

Description

Students will be able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no sailing skills component to this course.Students wishing to continue their ASA certifications beyond the 103-104 Bareboat Cruising are required to complete this ASA 105 course. The ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising course is an on the water and practical application of the navigation skills taught in this course. Classes will meet for 7 sessions. The 6th session will be the final exam. The 7th class (optional) will review the test and cover other material not tested.Prerequisites: None ASA 101 is not required to take this class. Cost: Hoofer Sailing Club Members: $275. Non-members $375. Class fees include the book “Coastal Navigation by Mike Pyzel, Weems and Plath navigation divider, parallel rules, and charts. The charts will be distributed to the students on the first day of class. New ASA students will also receive an ASA Logbook and a 1 year subscription to the ASA Sailing magazine upon successful completion. Non-members will receive a one month Hoofer Sailing Club membership.

Sign up in the Outdoor Program Office. Phone 608-262-1630. Winter hours are Noon – 6:30 PM Monday - Friday. Students may pick up the book and navigation tools once they arrive. Class is limited to 14 students.
