Event Information

Description

Prerequisite: None. This course is the first step in the certification process for sailors who wish to charter a sailboat someday. It is open to members and non-members.

The ASA 101 course is an opportunity to demonstrate your sailing knowledge and the ability to sail a sloop-rigged keelboat approximately 20-27 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. This course includes classroom training, on the water review and practice, demonstration of sailing maneuvers and a written examination.

Check this link to see the complete ASA Standards included in this course.       http://www.asa.com/asa_standards/standard_basic_keelboat_sailing.html

Note: The above stated hours are not when instruction will be held, but available times we may choose from to reach the 20 hours of instruction.  The goal at the Hoofer Sailing Club is to offer most of these hours as on-the-water-instruction and less classroom hours. The actual class hours will be determined at the first meeting based on the current weather, wind conditions, boat availability, and student preferences. Your instructor will inform you if any changes are needed.

Cost:  $415  non-member, $315 HSC member.

Please register in person at the Outdoor Programs Office.  You may also register by phone also by calling 608-262-1630 and pick up your materials later.
