Prerequisite: Hoofer Sailing Club Member, J-24 Light rating or a Heavy Keelboat Crew rating.

The ASA 101 course is the first step in the certification process for sailors who wish to charter a sailboat someday. It is open to members and non-members.

This course is an opportunity to demonstrate your sailing knowledge and the ability to sail a sloop-rigged keelboat approximately 20-27 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision.

Check this link to see the complete ASA Standards you are expected to know to test-out in his course.       http://www.asa.com/asa_standards/standard_basic_keelboat_sailing.html

Students coming in from the Heavy Keelboat fleet can get checked off on the J-Fleet skills demonstrated through this test-out. Inform your instructor to get a J-Fleet Progress Sheet started for you. A J-24 rating will not be given from this test-out; however, many of the skills will be fulfilled and the student will only be a few classes from a light rating.
