Prerequisite: Windsurfing light (Windsurfing Heavy or Jibe/Fast tack clinic preferred)
Earned from class: Knowledge of introductory lightwind freestyle techniques and moves
This lesson builds on what you may have learned in Windsurfing Jibe & Fast Tack, and introduces light wind freestyle moves. Instructors place huge emphasis on understanding exactly how the wind affects the sail. Students will learn fundamental freestyle techniques such as back-winded sailing, clew first sailing, switch foot, and rig flipping. These skills are building blocks for freestyle moves selected by the instructor. Examples may include variants of the heli-tack, boomerangs, or duck jibes. A by-product of the class is an excellent boost in sail controlling skills and an excellent means of showing off in light wind. For an idea of light wind freestyle check out this video from Bonaire. Students will sail on Mistral Prodigies, Hi-Fly Mambos, or BIC Melodies.
